Exploring EFL Tertiary-Level Learners’ Attitudes Toward Generative Artificial Intelligence: A Quantitative Study

dc.description.abstract	This study aims to investigate the attitudes of the bachelor-level EFL learners towards GenAI technologies and to examine whether these attitudes differ according to different demographic factors. A total of 270 students participated in the survey and the sample of this study consisted of preparatory school students from Cag University, located in Mersin. As for the research tools, personal Information Form and GenAIAS were used to collect data. The Personal Information Form provided information on participants’ age, gender and the high school they graduated from. Data were collected using Google Forms, and SPSS (26.0) was used for statistical analysis. Descriptive statistics, independent samples retrieval test, and reliability analysis were performed during the data analysis process. The research results show that students generally exhibit moderate to high levels of positive attitudes towards GenAI technologies. Positive attitudes were found in all sub-dimensions of the scale: Learning/ Utility, Usefulness, Enjoyment, and Interest. When examined in terms of demographic variables, no significant differences were observed according to age, and the type of high school graduated from. However, a significant difference related to gender was determined in the Usefulness dimension. In this study, it was also concluded that GenAIAS demonstrates high consistency and is a reliable measurement tool.
dc.description.abstract	Bu araştırmanın esas amacı, üniversite düzeyindeki İngilizce (EFL) öğrenen öğrencilerin Üretken Yapay Zeka teknolojilerine ilişkin tutumlarını belirlemek ve bu tutumların farklı demografik faktörlere göre değişip değişmediğini incelemektir. Bunun yanı sıra, Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAIAS) adlı ölçüm aracının farklı bir örneklem üzerine test edilerek yapısal geçerlilik, güvenilirlik ve anlaşılırlık özelliklerinin devam edip etmediği değerlendirilmiştir Araştırma, nicel ve tanımlayıcı bir araştırma yöntemiyle gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın örneklemi, Çağ Üniversitesi hazırlık okulu öğrencilerinden oluşmaktadır. Toplamda 270 öğrenci ankete katılım sağlamıştır. Veri toplamak için Kişisel Bilgi Formu ve GenAIAS araçları kullanılmıştır. Kişisel Bilgi Formu aracılığıyla katılımcıların yaş, cinsiyet ve mezun oldukları lise türü ile ilgili bilgiler elde edilmiştir. Veriler, Google Forms kullanılarak toplanmış ve istatistiksel analizler için SPSS kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi sürecinde betimsel istatistikler, bağımsız örneklemler için t-testi ve güvenilirlik analizleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırma sonuçları, öğrencilerin GenAI teknolojilerine karşı genel olarak orta ve yüksek seviyede olumlu tutum sergilediklerini göstermektedir. Ölçekteki Öğrenme/ Fayda, Eğlence, Kullanışlılık ve İlgi alt boyutlarının hepsinde olumlu tutumlar saptanmıştır. Demografik değişkenler açısından incelendiğinde, yaş ve mezun olunan lise türüne göre anlamlı bir farklılık gözlemlenmezken, Kullanışlılık boyutunda cinsiyetle ilişkili anlamlı bir farklılığın bulunduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca, GenAIAS’ın bu çalışmadaki tutarlılığın yüksek düzeyde olduğu ve güvenilir bir ölçüm aracı olduğu sonucuna varılmıştır.
