Financial Performance Measurement of Companies in the BIST Sustainability 25 Index with LBWA and MEREC-based CRADIS Methods
(Mehmet Akif Ersoy Univ, 2024) Yilmaz Ozekenci, Sureyya
Financial performance refers to the assessment of a firm's capacity to generate profits and manage its financial assets effectively during a specific period of time. This study addresses the evaluation of financial performance of companies in the BIST Sustainability 25 Index using a hybrid MCDM method. For this investigation, nine criteria, namely, acid- test ratio, asset turnover, current ratio, debt ratio, EBITDA, net profit margin, return on equity, stock return and stock turnover are used to determine the financial performance of companies. In this study, the weight of criteria is calculated using both subjective (LBWA) and objective (MEREC) weighting approaches. After the weight of criteria is determined, the financial performance of companies is ranked using the CRADIS method. The results showed that EBITDA and Stock turnover are the most and least important criteria, respectively. According to results obtained from the CRADIS method, Ere & gbreve;li Iron-Steel, Enka construction and Ford Otosan have the highest financial performance, while Vestel, Ar & ccedil;elik and & Ccedil;imsa have the lowest financial performance in the period of 2018 and 2022. Additionally, the robustness and validity of the results are tested by various MCDM methods, namely, ARAS, COPRAS, EDAS, MABAC, MAIRCA, MARCOS, TOPSIS, CoCoSo and MAUT.

Effects of some control methods on Johnson grass and yield components in tomato fiields
(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2023) Üstüner, Tamer; Al Sakran, Muhammad; Üstüner, Menderes
Johnson grass is one of the most dangerous and difficult to control weeds. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of different control methods on Johnson grass in tomato fields and to investigate the effect of these methods on the phenological stages and yield indicators of tomatoes. The study was carried out during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. The experiment treatments were as follows: hand hoe, mulch, preemergence herbicide pendimethalin (5 L/ha), postemergence herbicide fluazifop-P-butyl (1 L/ha), and control parcels. The number of flowers, the number of branches, and the length of the plant were determined in tomato. The yield and characteristics of the fruit were calculated and the fruits were analyzed. For Johnson grass, the time for germination, flowering, and seed maturity were determined. Plant height, fresh and dry biomass weight of weed, and rhizomes were also calculated. The results of this experiment showed that the best yield was 64.943 kg/ha in the hand hoe and the fluazifop-P-butyl treatment. The lowest density and fresh biomass of Johnson grass were detected in the fluazifop-P-butyl (217.3 stem/m2, 1009.4 g/m2) and the mulch (251.7 stem/m2, 1355.2 g/m2) treatments, respectively. The highest density and fresh biomass were detected in control parcels (448.8 stem/m2, 3239.2 g/ m2), and in the pendimethalin treatment (334.2 stem/m2, 1956.4 g/m2), respectively. The percentage of lost yield in the control parcels was 90.1%. Hand hoe was found to be the most effective control method against Johnson grass followed by fluazifop-P-butyl, mulch, and pendimethalin.

(Cukurova Univ, Fac Medicine, 2022) Topuz, Ayse Nur; Bozdemir, Nafiz
Purpose: The iam of this study was to assess the cardiovascular knowledge level of an educated and healthy population and determine how much they transferred it to daily life. In the current study, we first determined Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) Risk Factors Knowledge Level and Framingham score and investigated their relationship between pulse wave velocity (PWV) and laboratory parameters of healthy personal working for Cukurova University. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted via 192 participants who were selected from the study sample among healthy personnel working for Cukurova University. All participants' knowledge level was determined with the Cardiovascular Disease Risk Factors Knowledge Level (CARRF-KL) scale and the 10-year risk for development of CVD determined by the Framingham risk score. PWV was also determined non-invasively by using an arteriography device. Blood samples were collected from all participants. Results: The mean age of all participants was 45.3 +/- 8.0 years (53.6% woman). The mean CARRF-KL score of the participants was found as 20.4 +/- 4.0 and the mean Framingham score was found 6.9 +/- 5.6. The average PWV was found 7.9 +/- 1.5m/sn. In correlation analyses, PWV was well correlated with both the mean CARRF-KL score and Framingham score. Participants who had the highest CARRF-KL score had also the highest Framingham score and PWV Conclusion: Despite the high level of education and knowledge, it is seen that this knowledge is not reflected in daily lives in terms of CVD risk factors. Further studies are needed whether there is a threshold level of CVD knowledge that must be attained for knowledge to influence behavior and risk factor levels. For effective prevention, knowledge should be supported by behavioral counseling interventions.

Observations on the Causes and Effects of Lisbon Earthquake
(Beytulhikme Felsefe Cevresi, 2022) Kant, Immanuel; Topuz, Metin; Tuemkaya, Ahmet Selim
The earthquake that took place in Lisbon on November 1, 1755, at-tracted the philosophical interest of many thinkers such as Voltaire, Rousseau and Kant, both in the context of the physical cause of the earthquake and the problem of physical/moral evil (theodicy). Kant, who always keeps the cause of moral and physical evil at the center of his philosophy, presents an examination of the physical causes of the earthquake, which is considered a physical evil in his early writing. He touches superficially on the spiritual influence of evil on humans and its relation to divine grace. But the idea that such discussions should be examined within the limits of reason and experiment, maintains its vitality in this period of Kant. In the second of three articles, Kant this time conveys the information and observations he gathered from many sources. Its purpose is to examine the possible causal connection of physical evil with divine creation in the context of the limits of reason. In the last of his three articles on the Lisbon earthquake, Kant deals with the arguments made after his second article for the possible causes of the earthquake.

Exploring Relations between Pre-Service English Teachers' Psychological and Social Well-Being and their Perceptions of Positive Classroom Environment
(Hacettepe Univ, Elt Dept, 2016) Inozu, Julide; Sahinkarakas, Sehnaz
This paper reports on findings of a research study that sought to investigate the relationship between classroom environment and candidate teachers' social and psychological wellbeing. Dimensions of psychological and social well-being models include constructs such as personal growth, positive relations with others, and social contribution. Such constructs have impacts on teachers' creating a positive classroom environment, which is a predictor of students' academic achievement. Therefore, this study aims at exploring whether and how psychological and social well-being shape candidate teachers' perceptions of positive classroom environment. To address the focus of this study, the data were collected from 157 senior students at the English Language Teaching department through three questionnaires. The questionnaires measured mainly three variables: Participants' perceptions of positive classroom environment and their psychological and social well-being. The relationships between these variables were tested through Structural Equation Model (SEM) using AMOS (22.0). The results of the study revealed some significant relationships between some of the dimensions only, which may indicate that the participant pre-service teachers are expected to promote positive classroom environment in some aspects, but not all. Regarding this, the study provides valuable suggestions to be included in teacher development programs. (c) 2016 EJAL & the Authors. Published by Eurasian Journal of Applied Linguistics (EJAL).

Association of cancer response styles and alexithymia with posttraumatic growth in breast cancer patients
(Kare Publ, 2021) Cakmak, Soner; Cincin, Melisa; Avci, Ufuk Kocatepe
Objective: Breast cancer (BC) is one of the most common types of cancer seen in women. Many studies have been conducted to examine negative changes observed in patients diagnosed with BC. However, the traumatic experience of a cancer diagnosis can also have positive consequences, including post-traumatic growth (PTG), a positive life change that develops following a stressful experience. This study was an investigation of the relationship between PTG seen in female BC patients, cancer response style, and alexithymia, the inability to recognize and express one's emotions. Method: A total of 89 female patients who were diagnosed with BC and receiving treatment were enrolled in the study. The Mental Adjustment to Cancer scale, the Toronto Alexithymia Scale, and the Posttraumatic Growth Inventory (PGTI) were administered to the participants. Pearson correlation and multiple linear regression analyses and structural equation modeling (SEM) were used to assess the relationships between normally distributed variables. Results: There was a significant, positive relationship between the fighting spirit reaction style and the PTGI total score (r=0.49; p<0.001), and a significant, negative relationship between the helplessness-hopelessness reaction style and the PTGI total score (r=-0.46; p<0.001). Multiple regression analyses revealed that education level (years) was associated with PTG (beta=1.13; t[82]=2.31; p=0.02) (F[6, 82=1.47]; p=0.2; R-2 =0.10), and the subfactors of changes in philosophy of life (CPL) (beta=0.59; t[82]=3.28; p=0.002) and changes in self-perception (CSP) (beta=0.54; t[82]=2.21; p=0.03); and the length of time since diagnosis was associated with CPL (beta=3.91; t[82]=2.37; p=0.02). SEM analysis showed that a fighting spirit response style to cancer partially mediated the relationship between alexithymia and PTG (chi(2) [12, n=89]=14.24; p=0.29; chi(2)/df=1.19; root mean square error of approximation [RMSEA]=0.05; comparative fit index [CFI]=0.99; incremental fit index [IFI]=0.99; normed fit index [NFI]=0.93). The other cancer response styles did not have a mediating effect on the relationship between alexithymia and PTG. Conclusion: Alexithymia is an important consideration in BC patients. Promoting a fighting spirit response in BC patients, and particularly alexithymic patients, could contribute to the development of PTG.
