Exploring the Relationship Between Students’ Perception of the Classroom Environment and Their Engagement In English Language Classes
(Çağ Üniversitesi, Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2026) Subaşı, Ezgi Ala
This study’s primary objective is to investigate the relationship between English foreign language students' perceptions of the classroom environment and their engagement in learning English. The classroom environment encompasses factors such as students' interactions with each other, teacher encouragement, and well-organized learning environments. Thus, the classroom environment has a significant impact on students’ feelings and motivation for learning English. In modern classrooms, it is regarded that learner engagement and perceptions of the learning environment are important variables that have a significant effect on how well students learn a language. When students perceive their classroom as encouraging, inclusive, friendly, and well-organized, they are more likely to participate fully, be more motivated, and remain committed to studying a foreign language. The research was implemented on 261 eleventh-grade students from an Anatolian high school in Diyarbakır, Turkey. The study employs a quantitative research design, and the data were collected using two validated instruments: the 'What Is Happening in This Class?' (WIHIC) scale, developed by Bizimana, Mutangana, and Mwesigye, to measure students’ perceptions of the classroom environment; and the 'Student Engagement in English Classes Scale' (SEECS), developed by Ceylan, to assess students’ engagement in English language lessons. The study's findings show a significant relationship between students' perceptions of the learning environment and their engagement in English language lessons. Descriptive analyses reveal that learners generally have moderately positive perceptions of the learning environment and show a moderate level of engagement in English lessons. Besides, inferential analyses showed that gender and academic program have an influence on students' perceptions of the learning environment. Beyond these, correlation analyses indicate that there is a positive, strong, and statistically significant relationship between the overall WIHIC and SEECS scores, and a consistent positive association exists among all sub-dimensions of these two scales.

Exploring EFL Students’ Perceptions of Using ChatGpt In Grammar Learning
(Çağ Üniversitesi, Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2026) Kav, Ayşe Özge
This research investigates the perceptions of ninth-grade EFL students on the use of ChatGPT as an AI-supported tool for grammar learning. This research was conducted with a mixed-methods case study design. The research was conducted with 20 ninth-grade EFL students at a private high school in Gaziantep, Türkiye. The study used a 12-week teaching schedule, where ChatGPT was incorporated as a supplemental grammar aid in grammar learning activities. The quantitative data were collected using the pre-test and post-test design of the ChatGPT Perception Scale to analyze the perceptions of the students before and after the intervention. The qualitative data were collected using the semi-structured interview technique to gain insights into the experiences and perceptions of the students regarding the use of ChatGPT during grammar learning. The results of the quantitative study showed that there was no significant difference in the perceptions of the students regarding the use of ChatGPT for learning grammar after the intervention. However, the results showed that the perceptions of the students were positive before and after the intervention. The results of the qualitative study showed that the students found ChatGPT to be a helpful tool for answering questions, viewing grammatical structures, and facilitating the learning process. However, the students also identified some limitations, including limited access time and the need to pay for additional servicesThe results of this study suggested that ChatGPT might be used as a supplementary tool for teaching EFL grammar to high school students, considering some limitations.

Exploring EFL Tertiary-Level Learners’ Attitudes Toward Generative Artificial Intelligence: A Quantitative Study
(Çağ Üniversitesi, Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2026) Cankut, Kübra Nur
This study aims to investigate the attitudes of the bachelor-level EFL learners towards GenAI technologies and to examine whether these attitudes differ according to different demographic factors. A total of 270 students participated in the survey and the sample of this study consisted of preparatory school students from Cag University, located in Mersin. As for the research tools, personal Information Form and GenAIAS were used to collect data. The Personal Information Form provided information on participants’ age, gender and the high school they graduated from. Data were collected using Google Forms, and SPSS (26.0) was used for statistical analysis. Descriptive statistics, independent samples retrieval test, and reliability analysis were performed during the data analysis process. The research results show that students generally exhibit moderate to high levels of positive attitudes towards GenAI technologies. Positive attitudes were found in all sub-dimensions of the scale: Learning/ Utility, Usefulness, Enjoyment, and Interest. When examined in terms of demographic variables, no significant differences were observed according to age, and the type of high school graduated from. However, a significant difference related to gender was determined in the Usefulness dimension. In this study, it was also concluded that GenAIAS demonstrates high consistency and is a reliable measurement tool.

Green maritime transport performance analysis of G-7 countries using an interval-valued Fermatean fuzzy ARLON-based decision model
(ELSEVIER, 2025) Yalçın, Galip Cihan; Kara, Karahan; Özekenci, Emre Kadir; Simic, Vladimir; Pamuçar, Dragan
Maritime transport operations are witnessing heightened environmental sensitivities, prompting the implementation of environmentally focused maritime transport practices. The principal aim is to develop a decision support system for evaluating countries' green maritime transport performance. To this end, the interval-valued Fermatean fuzzy (IVFF)-simple weight calculation (SIWEC)-skewness impact through distributional evaluation (SITDE)-alternative ranking using two-step logarithmic normalization (ARLON) model is developed within this study. This method enables the analysis of countries' green maritime transport performance by integrating expert opinions with environmental and maritime transport parameters. The model determines the influence of experts using IVFF sets. It further facilitates the simultaneous use of subjective and objective criteria weighting approaches to compute the weights of green maritime transport performance criteria. ARLON is employed to assess and rank countries' green maritime transport performance levels. The applicability of the IVFF-SIWEC-SITDEARLON model is tested through a case study focusing on G-7 countries, and the results supported the successful implementation of the method. Furthermore, sensitivity and comparative analyses demonstrated the consistency and robustness of the model. According to the findings of the case study, the United States emerges as the country with the highest green maritime transport performance among the G-7 countries. The "linear shipping connectivity index" is identified as the most influential criterion in the decision-making process. The study offers actionable recommendations for the maritime industry, thereby contributing to the advancement of green maritime transport practices.
