Enhancing well-being in higher education: the role of job satisfaction and resilience among ELT instructors
(FRONTIERS MEDIA SA, 2025) Zaimoglu, Senem; Dağtaş, Aysun
Introduction As academic demands intensify and institutional pressures increase, university-level English Language Teaching (ELT) instructors face growing risks to their psychological well-being. Understanding the factors that contribute to their well-being is essential for ensuring sustainable professional engagement. This study investigates the role of job satisfaction and teacher resilience in promoting psychological well-being among ELT instructors in higher education settings. Methods A quantitative research design was employed, involving 173 ELT instructors working at universities in T & uuml;rkiye. Data were collected through three validated instruments: the Teacher Job Satisfaction Scale, the Teacher Resilience Scale, and the Psychological Well-Being Scale. Multiple regression analyses were used to explore the predictive relationships among the variables. Results Findings revealed that both job satisfaction and resilience significantly and positively predicted psychological well-being. Among the two, job satisfaction emerged as the strongest predictor. In addition, teacher resilience was found to partially mediate the relationship between job satisfaction and psychological well-being.Discussion The results highlight the importance of fostering emotionally resilient and professionally satisfied ELT instructors. Institutional policies that enhance autonomy, promote professional development, and support well-being are critical for sustaining mental health and effective teaching performance in demanding higher education contexts.
Emotions inspire transformation: delving into EFL teachers' emotions and professional identities
(FRONTIERS MEDIA SA, 2025) Dağtaş, Aysun; Zaimoğlu, Senem
Emotions are increasingly recognized as central to the teaching and learning process, particularly in the context of language education. This study aimed to explore the intricate relationship between emotional experiences of language teachers and their evolving professional identities. Drawing on the theoretical frameworks of teacher emotions and identity, the research addresses the shift from cognitive to sociocultural and critical perspectives in studies about language teachers' emotions. Situated in a Turkish university context, the study involved semi-structured interviews and narratives from seven English language teachers. Participants shared insights into their emotional experiences, professional development, and challenges encountered in institutional and cultural settings. Thematic reflexive analysis revealed three main themes: (1) navigating emotional diversity, (2) dealing with emotional diversity and regulation, and (3) emotional alignment. The results revealed the complex and dialogic nature of the relationship between teacher emotions and identity, which points the need for emotionally supportive professional environments. This study contributes to a broader understanding of identity work as an emotional process, offering implications for teacher education and well-being in language teaching contexts.
Examining the Role of Food Technology Neophobia in Shaping Consumer Attitudes and Intentions to Purchase Genetically Modified Foods
(MDPI, 2025) Ozelturkay, Eda Yasa; Dogrul, Umit; Oguz, Suzan; Yalçıntaş, Deniz; Gülmez, Murat
In recent years, significant changes in food consumption habits have emerged due to various factors, including climate change, population growth, urbanization, and the depletion of natural resources. These changes pose a threat to the stability of global food systems and raise serious concerns about food security. Although this process encourages innovative and sustainable food consumption, it also makes individuals more skeptical and concerned about new foods. In this context, understanding consumer intentions regarding behaviors such as purchasing genetically modified (GM) foods is critical for predicting consumer responses and promoting responsible consumption patterns within the scope of sustainability. This study examined the effects of food technology neophobia and perceived information on attitudes and purchase intentions toward genetically modified (GM) foods. Survey data were collected from 324 participants across Turkey and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings revealed that food technology neophobia reduces perceived benefits and increases perceived risks, whereas perceived information enhances perceived benefits and lowers perceived risks. Additionally, attitudes were found to influence the intention to purchase GM foods significantly. Global issues, such as climate change and the depletion of natural resources, highlight the importance of innovations in food technology for sustainable food production. Understanding consumer concerns and perceived knowledge levels regarding genetically modified (GM) foods is critical to ensuring that these products are accepted at the societal level in an informed and conscious way. This study contributes to the promotion of sustainable food technologies and responsible consumer behavior, in line with the objectives of Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production).
Determining the Factors Affecting University Students' Green Entrepreneurship Intention
(MEHMET AKIF ERSOY UNIVERSITY, 2025) Yalçıntaş, Deniz; Ozelturkay, Eda Yaşa
It is essential that people, businesses, and the government provide sustainable solutions to the environmental problems the globe suffers. Green entrepreneurship is one way to address these issues. In the research model based on the Value Identity Norm Model, the primary goal is to determine the moderating influence of variables (such as family, education, support of government & university) as well as the impact of these factors on university students' intention to participate in green entrepreneurship. Through a face-to-face survey, information was gathered from 475 students enrolled at four higher education institutions in the province of Mersin. Using the SmartPLS 4 tool, the data was analyzed in the context of structural equation modeling using partial least squares. The study's findings showed that university students' intents for green entrepreneurship were strongly influenced by biospheric values, environmental self-identities, personal norms, and green entrepreneurship self-efficacy. It showed that the decision to participate in sustainable enterprises is affected by personal norms and environmental self-identities. It was found that families, schools, colleges, and the government had little to no moderating effect.
